I had the opportunity to photograph a jazz legend last month at the UNCG Auditorium. Tim Warfield was a featured artist with the Miles Davis Jazz Studies program and played with the jazz students of the University and also provided a master class during the school day.
I have had the opportunity to photograph a lot of amazing talent over the years and this jazz concert was incredible. I used to play jazz trumpet in high school so it really brought me back. Tim played numerous songs with the UNCG Jazz Band and broke out his tenor sax and soprano sax throughout the night.
Tim Warfield, Jr., a native of York, Pennsylvania, began studying the alto saxophone at age nine. He switched to tenor saxophone during his first year at William Penn Sr. High School where he participated in various musical ensembles winning many jazz soloist awards, including second out of forty competitors at the Montreal Festival of Music in Canada. - TimWarfieldMusic.com
His accolades go on and on over the decades and he continues to perform on a global level and is recognized as a saxophone legend within the music scene.
A lot of the students in the band took turns with improv solos and they killed it! It is a very talented group of young musicians. A few of the students also sang some featured songs. Before the last song of the night, the director of the Miles Davis Jazz Studies program acknowledged some seniors with awards and kind words of their talents and accomplishments while at UNCG. It was a special night indeed.
