I had the pleasure of working with The Patrick family last month to celebrate their mom's 90th birthday. They had family and friends from all over the USA come in for this very special evening. Ms. Odessa Patrick is indeed a very loved and special person who has been a VIP here in the Triad of North Carolina.
I received a call a few weeks before the celebration date from Krystal, who is one of Odessa's daughters, to talk through the event and timeline. The event took place at the Sheraton Four Seasons here in Greensboro which is a venue I have photographed at many a time through the year. Their staff is always accommodating and did a wonderful job that evening.
Odessa is loved by many because well over 100 people attended the dinner party from all over the US and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Odessa was a very successful person in a professional sense as a Graduate of North Carolina A&T State University - Greensboro (B.S in Biology) and the University of North Carolina – Greensboro (M.A. in Biology). She was also the first African American academic staff at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro (Biology instructor and Lab instructor).
I learned about these accolades during the welcome speech that her son provided to the crowd. A few other special attendees provided some speeches and wonderful words before dinner.
Odessa is indeed a very productive women as she has taken part in many organizations such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of University Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Greensboro Alumni Chapter), Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Ever Achieving Retired Teachers Club, Begonia Garden Club and United Institutional Baptist Church.
It was an honor to be the photographer at this special event and do love the variety of projects I am able to capture on a week to week basis here in Greensboro and the surrounding areas of North Carolina.
