Congrats to the newly weds Polly and Johnny on their wedding celebration which took place mid October at the historic Graylyn Estate. I am a Triad based wedding photographer and this is truly one of my favorite venues to photograph and work with. Every inch of the venue space is an amazing backdrop for photography and hope you love some of the images in this featured blog article of their special wedding day.
The image above might be my favorite from the entire day. Their last dance took place in the white garden under the gazebo. I used a 35mm lens wide open at 1.2f/stop to capture this image in the almost pitch dark and couldn't be happier with it. I have known Johnny and his family for well over 10 years as a family portrait client and when I received the call to talk about the wedding planning I was excited to chat and help with their special day.
The day started with some preparation images and a first look for Polly and her dad. I staged those images on the massive circular staircase and it was perfect. I then took Polly to see her groom for the first time and it was equally perfect. I am always a big fan of when couples want to see each other before the ceremony as it provided amazing images and expressions and also allows us to capture tons of family photos before hand.
After the ceremony I took the newly weds around the grounds of Graylyn for some signature images! I have shot at this wedding venue for many years and know all the little spots that are great for photos. I got them back right on time for the reception introductions, toasts and dinner. I then snuck them back out for some sunset photos around 630pm and timed it just right.
The weather was perfect for a mid October wedding which allows us to use the reception room but mostly utilize the beautiful White Garden. Edison bulbs were strung from the building which gave great ambient light all evening. They partied down for a few hours and gave me plenty of opportunity to capture in the moment candid photos and cool detail images of the day. The night concluded with their last dance and a fun exit from the main entrance of Graylyn.
I look forward to having Polly and Johnny visit the studio in a few short weeks to review the entire event on the big screen. When able, I invite all my wedding clients to the studio for a champagne toast and to view a 30 minute slideshow with music and relive the day. We will then begin to edit down and choose the very best images for their custom album design. Please keep my studio in mind as we approach the holiday season for any family and friends that might be getting engaged. I am planning out the 2021 wedding calendar and will be celebrating year 17 as a Triad wedding photographer here in North Carolina.
